Our History

The Church of Saint Clare has been a cornerstone of faith and community since its beginnings as a mission of St. Paul the Apostle Church in 1931. Officially established as a parish in 1939, Saint Clare’s has grown steadily alongside the Colonie community it serves. Rooted in Franciscan spirituality and inspired by the legacy of Saint Clare of Assisi, the parish has been shaped by generations of devoted clergy, religious sisters, and lay leaders. Over the years, it has expanded its ministries, built a vibrant parish center, and welcomed thousands of families into a life of worship, service, and discipleship. Saint Clare’s continues to live out the Gospel with compassion, hospitality, and joy.
